New screens for new iPhones said in the works
The next incarnation of the iPhone will launch with a 4.7-inch screen while a
5.5-inch version may be delayed, according to Reuters.
In a post out of Tokyo early Tuesday, Reuters quoted unnamed supply chain
sources saying that Apple's suppliers -- Japan Display Inc, Sharp Corp and South
Korea's LG Display Co Ltd -- will start making 4.7-inch displays for the iPhone6
as early as May.
The report says that in-cell touch panel technology will get built into the
screens, which will be developed with "thinner construction than with standard
touch panel films - that was introduced with theiPhone 5."
Rumors about the iPhone6 have picked up recently. Earlier this week,
Japan's Nikkei newspaper said that Apple's new smartphones would debut in
September.
Apple introduced the iPhone 5 in September 2012 followed by last year's
follow-up debuts of the 5S and 5C.
